The Classical Guitar
Guitarschools classical guitarists also play rock guitar (electric guitar; acoustic guitar; electric bass guitar) at Rockschools
Guitarschools classical guitarists play a modern acoustic guitar with six nylon strings, also called the 'Spanish' guitar (after the Spanish luthier Antonio Torres Jurado who is credited with its design). Students use their fingernails to pluck the strings and they follow the classical music repertoire. Trinity exam board is used for students wishing to take exams through Guitarschools.
The classical guitar is an acoustic instrument. The vibration of the strings causes the air inside the hollow body of the guitar to vibrate. The soundboard transfers the energy produced by the vibrating strings to the top of the guitar. The choice of wood used to make a guitar is therefore important for sound quality. Sound projects through the sound hole and some designs incorporate larger sound holes in an attempt to create a bigger sound.
Classical guitar technique focuses on the right hand and accomplished players perfom similar complexities of rhythm and melodic/harmonic line to that of a pianist.
