The Acoustic Guitar

Guitarschools acoustic guitarists also play at Rockschools

There are many different variations of acoustic guitar. Guitarschools acoustic guitars are steel strung (6 string) and the sound is brighter and louder than that of a classical guitar. Steel strung acoustic guitars are commonly associated with folk music and country music.

Guitarschools Acoustic Guitars

Sound is produced on an acoustic guitar using the fingers or by using a plectrum. The fretting hand can occasionally be used for certain techniques.

No external amplification of the sound is necessary. The vibration of the strings and the air inside the hollow body of the guitar, together with the resonance of the body of the instrument produce the sound and dictate any difference in tonal quality between instruments.

An acoustic guitar can be amplified by using magnetic and non-magnetic (Piezo) pickups. Piezo pickups are usually positioned under the bridge and can be plugged into an amplifier (acoustic-electric guitar). Magnetic pickups are similar to pickups used in electric guitars. They are usually positioned in the sound hole (semi-acoustic guitar).
